Asking models for references

In the past I've asked my models for references, which I've always reciprocated on. I recently ran into an experienced model, who chiefly posed for photographers and not here in California, that said this was the first time that anybody had asked her for references. Am I acting a bit paranoid? I'm merely trying to eliminate the possibly of a model disappearing on me before the sculpture is complete. Also, since my studio is currently in my home and wife is a bit paranoid this tends to make her less so. Well?

Asking for donation of artwork for fundraising for Holocaust Memorial

Hi Figure Sculpture people!
I have a project that I am trying to fund myself. It is a huge undertaking- a holocaust memorial. Please go to the website at http://www.babiyarrequiem.com to see it. I can't seem to find a museum to begin funding this project for me, so, undeterred, I thought I'd have an art auction to raise the funds for my first year of making this project.
I would really love it if any of you were able to contribute something to this project of mine. You know how hard it is to get money for art and I am hoping that you agree that we artists must help each other at times.
The cause is a good one. I absolutely feel that this sculpture must be made, so all I want to do is fund it for the first year to get it going. But even the first year is a big undertaking and it will take a lot of moolah to do it.
I am asking every artist I know and can find to help make this an auction possible to bring in the money for this project. Would you be able to contribute a sculpture or a drawing to this cause? I will have the auction online in June. What I need now is a commitment of art and a jpg and a bio and starting price for the work. I'm also happy to pay for the shipping of this work to me ( or directly to the buyer from you), when that time comes. I'd also like to invite you and people you know to participate in the auction. I'm trying to get a lot of work and a large variety of styles and pieces to make it into an auction everyone will love! I will have it on line through the Babi Yar website and pay-pal. I'll try to do it over a weeks' time so that people get the chance to bid on pieces they like. I'll also include a biography of every contributing artist on the site ( I'm getting ready to start that now- so it will be up for a while).
Also I will give you a receipt to you for a tax donation.
Please do really consider this. A small contribution from you would be a truly great help to me and this project! Thanks so much.
Also, I donate some of my own work.. if you want to see my site go to http://www.cjacksonsculpture.com
Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Trapezius seems to be the most difficult and unrewarding muscle to sculpt. Its shitting me no end. How did you learn to make backs? the slightest shift can completely warp the shape of back muscles, especially with so many layers.

I'm interrested to hear what methods other people use to create a figure. Mostly I have learnt to build up using clay or modeling paste, muscle by muscle. I have found though that the end product is not always integrated and often requires alot of re-working to get the overall balance right. Recently I modelled with plastecine using a combination building, shaping and cutting. The overall flow of the piece came together much more easily.

As a figurative sculptor I'm happy to be amongst you. Can I get the right advice here? I want to build a mold of a clay image in which to cast concrete. Here are some steps I've learned so far. One, spray figure with Krylons "crystal clear". Two, coat liberally with Vaseline. Three, cover with 100% silicone bathtub caulk right from a caulk gun. (I'm told this is as good as any two part silicone but little bits of the crystal clear stick to the silicone and are difficult to remove).

Los Angeles / and Ventura County Area Female Figure Model Available

I have three years experience figure modeling for sculpture, painting and drawing.

This past January, I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl, Savannah. It has been an absolute miracle. I'm raising her on my own and am the happiest I've ever been in my entire life. I haven't been able to bring myself to separate from her and take her to daycare so I can go back to regular full-time work. I really don't know how other mothers can do it...

So, I'm looking for legitmate artists who need figure models and are willing to have my daughter present. It could mean that I may have to occassionally break a pose before the 20 minutes are up. I'm very willing to even the time out by taking shorter breaks, staying longer, coming earlier, or what ever it takes.

I thought that perhaps you or some of the LA area artists you know could use a professional figure model on an on-going basis. Even if only for occassional sessions, I'd love to hear from you.

Please respond either here on Tribe or to shamenun@aol.com and I'll be happy to discuss it further and provide references.

Thank you!

Artist who doesnt apreciate art...?

Hi there, I'm new to the group... but I was just wondering if there are any others like me out there...
I am an artist... not full time... but in my soul.. I need to create... but I'm not someone who would ever buy art and appreciate it... I see works by other sculptors and I evaluate them fiercely suppressing the urge to go get my chisels and , just... finish it off a bit... art is just something I like to DO...

...I don't really even appreciate my own work, other than the memories of carving that they conjure up little corners that were so hard to get to.... the act of faith as I drive the hammer down knowing that the part removed will only be waste and my carving will remain fully intact within the stone... calmly removing everything that is not her... (Carvings are always her... even if it's a male figure.. the sculpture is a "she"... dunno why)

To regress... is there anyone else that loves the act of creating art... but has little appreciation for finished works....?

Forgive me folks, I too have co-opted the photo space. Any other figurative metal sculptors out there? I'm sort of in my prolific stage, and I admit it's a little hard to hold back... much more work at www.sfitzgeraldfineart.com and some of my fathers. Good to be here. Oh and,any constructive criticism is always well appreciated. Stephen Fitz-Gerald

I recently spent some time exploring remote jungle beaches
in Costa Rica where piles of precious woods are washed
up on the beaches.
Once my mind released the images of civilization,
I saw natural sculpture all around me.
I created sculptures, then gifted them to my
Costa Rican host, and feel richer for it.
I posted images of a few pieces created during my CR adventure.
(Jungle Dancer, Lady Rica, Chupacabra, and SlothFkr)

I’ll never leave home without my sculpture tools again.

Hi!

Sorry for going so picture crazy.....but I just wanted to share pictures of my first life size portrait sculpture in clay....(well...its my first figeritive sculpture ever)..

I spent along time on it.....almost every Saturday since the begining of the year....since this is just a side project I wanted to do...its not part of my school program and I'm just sculpting with a friend on the side...I make time in my busy week...(I'm in school all day every day/night and weekends)

I put silicone on it a few weeks ago....just a thin layer so when I go back to Florence Italy in September I can continue a bit more on it...(I think I want to change the sholders a little...I might put shells on it and humm...I'm not sure yet)...and then I'll put more silicone on it and then get it ready to cast...(I'll take over the photo section even more once its cast *grinz*)

one day I hope I can creat something I feel is worth casting in bronze....but this is just my first sculpture and I also cant aford to make it bronz if I dont have someone to pay for it...

If you did not see enough from the few pictures I posted and want to see more of my sculpture.....I have more in my profile pics and also drawings I did............and in time to come paintings as well......

ciao all..

Anyone seen any good shows in LA of figure sculpture lately? I am in need of a figure drawing class/workshop. I would be willing to start one in the Hollywood area if I could find a space. Any Ideas? to give you some idea of my work check out www.mileseastman.com. Just got back from a trip to Italy. Carrara and Pietrasanta! amazing! Can't wait to work with stone. Any stone carvers in the tribe? I would love to chat!
Thanks
